Successful zinc diet for Candida

Congratulations to Volha Skrahina for the “Best Elevator Presentation”

April 11, 2017

The British Society for Medical Mycology (BSMM) honored Volha Skrahina for her discovery of the transcription factor Ssn6 as a novel component in the zinc homeostasis machinery of the human pathogenic fungus Candida albicans. Zinc acquisition and homeostasis are crucial for the fungus and the availability of zinc is recognized as a central factor in infections. Volha works on her PhD thesis in the Department for Microbial Pathogenicity Mechanisms. She convinced the jury with her poster and talk and was evaluated best out of twelve mostly british contributions at the 53rd Annual BSMM Scientific Meeting from March 19-21, 2017 in Birmingham, UK.
