Application

Calls for recruitment for vacant ILRS projects are announced online usually once a year. Application for ILRS projects is only possible during this recruitment.

Requirements: A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Life Sciences or Bioinformatics or similar is required. Candidates about to earn their degree are welcome to apply.

Application procedure: The application is handled exclusively online via this website. Please note that we do not accept any application by email or regular mail. The ILRS recruitment is a two-step procedure:

Step 1: Online Application

Please acquaint yourself with the PhD projects offered within the current ILRS Recruitment Call and select up to three projects of interest. Then go to the application website. Thoroughly complete the online application forms. You will be guided through the application procedure step by step. Please upload the necessary application documents as PDF files:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Cover Letter
  • Degree Certificates
  • Reference Letters (optional)

When you have ensured that your application is complete, please submit. Please note that we can only accept applications that are complete and have been submitted before the deadline expires.

Step 2: Recruitment Meeting

After evaluation of the applications by the ILRS Faculty, selected applicants might be asked to participate in phone interviews. Based on the outcome of the evaluation and the interviews, successful candidates will be invited to attend a Recruitment Meeting in Jena. At the Recruitment Meeting, candidates will briefly present their previous research results and do personal interviews with the faculty members. The applicants will also have the chance to get to know the participating institutions in Jena and to talk to faculty members and current doctoral researchers. Awarding decisions will be made shortly thereafter and candidates notified about the outcome.
