Three Minute Thesis Competition
How long does it take to present your doctoral thesis? An hour, half an hour, or maybe only fifteen minutes? Well, we think, that's too long: We will give you three minutes!
The Friedrich Schiller university is calling for the 3 Minute Thesis® Competition! In this event, doctoral candidates from all disciplines present their dissertations in English, on one slide only and with no more than three minutes time! The winner takes home € 100, and the chance to fly to Edinburgh in June 2017 for the European 3MT Finals.
The competition offers its participants the opportunity to present their doctoral thesis in a nutshell and to introduce their subject to an interested lay audience in both an entertaining and easily understood manner. Moreover, the Graduate-Academy invites all participants to take part in a workshop to learn how to present research topics in front of lay audiences. The 3MT® competition will be integrated into the "Promovierendentag 2017" on 24 January 2017, and take place in the Rosensäle of FSU, starting from 18:00h. Next to the first prize that is awarded by a jury, we will also give our audience the chance to award one of the participants a Public's Choice prize.
3MT® is an internationally renowned competition that is conducted at numerous universities throughout the world. It was invented in 2008, by the University of Queensland, Australia, and since then has been a registered trademark for frequent competitions that follow its idea. The Coimbra Group introduces this competition to European Universities. As the Jena University is member of this association of the oldest and most renowned European Universities, it now gets the chance to be part of this worldwide tradition. The competition is organized by Jena's own Graduate-Academy, in coalition with the Doctoral Council of FSU, DR. FSU.
All doctoral candidates are cordially invited to participate in our first 3MT® edition! Deadline for all registrations is 2 December 2016.
